Dr. John Greenwood was a New York dentist and forefather in American dentistry. He is most famous for making the long worn dentures of President George Washington, who started losing his own teeth in his early 20s. Dentist Greenwood designed Washington’s dentures with a hole to accommodate the only remaining real tooth that Washington still had in his mouth at the time. As a dentist, Dr. Greenwood believed that a dental professional should “never extract a tooth… [when] there is a possibility of saving it.” Many still follow his dental philosophies today!
