Shade trees are not only beautiful, but can save big with heating and cooling costs.

Shade trees are not only beautiful, but can save big with heating and cooling costs. Deciduous trees lose their leaves in the fall allowing the sun to shine down and warm a home on a chilly winter day. Spring comes, the leaves blossom yet again, and the deciduous trees display a lush canopy of greenery. During the summer their leaves help to shade the home and block sunlight, therefore using the air conditioner less, resulting in less energy needed to keep the home cool. Shade trees should be planted in the southerly direction of a property to get the most sunlight. Common deciduous trees include oak, maple, gum, ash, and dogwoods.
