Contrary to popular belief, George Washington’s teeth were not made of wood. A New York dentist, Dr. John Greenwood, crafted a technologically advanced set of dentures for the time. They were made using of hippo ivory, human teeth, gold wire springs, and brass screws. At the time of President Washington’s inauguration in 1789, he only had one lonely tooth of his own remaining in his mouth.
